While today EA Confirmed that we’ll see Star Wars: Battlefront‘s first actual gameplay at E3, we don’t need to wait for next month to get more info, as the development team is keeping things warm on Reddit.
Community Manager Mathew Everett gave a bit more information about destruction, and in particular we should not expect large-scale “levolution” like in Battlefield.
Overall the team is using destruction where it makes sense and is also making sure it stays true to the Star Wars universe. While there is some destruction in the game, Battlefront will not feature large-scale destruction like you see in Battlefield. Trees and other select environmental objects will take damage etc.
According to him, we can expect weapons to be as authentic as possible to the original IP:
Our team is working to make every type of weapon as authentic to the Star Wars universe as possible.
Y-wing and TIE Bombers will not unlock from killstreaks:
These are not things that are unlocks from killstreaks. We will reveal more details soon.
Starfighters will be able to fight in the same environments as ground battles:
You will be able to utilize X-wings, TIE fighters and other air vehicles in multiple game modes. This includes allowing dogfights while ground battles are taking place.
Other players will have ways to see our achievements displayed visually:

Everett finally talked about what it’s like to work on a Star Wars game, also mentioning his Star Wars celebration experience:
Honestly, it’s a dream and scary as hell for many reasons. It’s truly a challenge, and one I am honored to take on and can only hope you will appreciate the final experience we’re crafting.
Celebration was awesome! It had to be the faces of all the Star Wars fans as they left our behind closed doors experience after seeing the gameplay for the first time. But I have to be honest, I didn’t get much time to cruise the floor or attend a lot of the cool panels outside of ours.
I did get to giveaway a few of the custom PS4’s, which was pretty awesome as well.
Level Artist Daniel Cambrand also mentioned that DICE’s FX artists really captured the feel of the IP’s explosions and smoke:
Our FX people have really captured the feel of the Star Wars explosions and smoke. In terms of Frostbite, we are now using PBR (physically based rendering) which makes the materials appear more accurate. Stone looks like stone, and metal looks like metal, in any environment you put it in.
Last but not least, Design Director Niklas Fegraeus confirmed a new mode, named “Fighter Squadron. ”
You could see a tiny snippet of this in our trailer where you saw the Fighter Squadron mode, where you engage in huge Starfighter battles over canyons big enough to be truly epic. Then, for those not in the mood for large scale battles, we have created Missions where players can, for example, take on armies of AI or test their piloting skills.
Looks like we have a lot to look forward to for this year’s E3. Hopefully Star Wars Battlefront‘s actual gameplay will live up to the massive expectations created by the first trailer.
