Star Wars Battlefront II Looks Ahead to 2019 for New Content
EA and DICE looked back at the new content for Star Wars Battlefront II during 2018, while looking forward to more coming soon in 2019.
It would be an understatement to say that Star Wars Battlefront II got off to a rocky start upon its 2017 launch, but EA and DICE have attempted to earn goodwill with a stream of new content this year. In summarizing what the game has added during 2018, the team behind Battlefront also reminded players that more is to come in 2019.
Fans of the Clone Wars stories from the Star Wars universe were treated to new characters and maps throughout the year. Clone troopers received new skins, and Heroes including Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous were added into the mix. And while Attack of the Clones may not be a fan-favorite film, players can use these Hero characters in the new Geonosis map.
The upcoming year will add even more Clone Wars goodies, with a content roadmap dating the addition of Count Dooku for January and a young Jedi Anakin Skywalker following in February. Along with the usual new skins, a new game mode featuring capture points and capital ships will find their way into the game in the same month.
That description should be familiar to players of the classic Star Wars Battlefront games, with Battlefield-inspired “command posts” and a reinforcement count being the main game mode of those earlier PS2/Xbox titles. I always found it ironic that when the actual Battlefield developers took on Battlefront that they shied away from their roots and instead creating arcadey gameplay and various multi-step gametypes.
Those on the Xbox One who have the EA Access pass are able to play Star Wars Battlefront II. Otherwise, the game is also playable to non-subscribers on that platform, as well as the PS4 and PC.
