Star Wars Battlefront II Visual Improvements Showcased in Comparison Video

A video from an EA Game Changer shows the visual improvements in Star Wars Battlefront II over the past two years.

Star Wars Battlefront II launched in 2017, developed between DICE, Criterion Software, Motive Studios and published by EA. While its launch was a bit rocky, especially surrounding how the game handled loot and progression, changes were made that improved the experience. In a new video from Cinematic Captures, we can see how much the visuals of the game have also changed over the past 2 years from 2018 to 2020.

The short 3-minute video starts off by showing the characters of the game and what improvements have been made over the years. Then it moves onto the environments and graphical enhancements that have since been applied since launch.

To kick it off, we see Kylo Ren standing with frontend lighting from 2018, then a transition reveals a much softer frontend lighting with smoother shadows. There’s other major changes such as Rey’s character getting mesh and animation changes, and a complete overhaul of the Stormtrooper character.

We also get to see some in-game animation changes, and I personally love the Darth Maul animation. There’s also changes to the games bloom, lighting, FX and AO settings that make the environments look brighter and more stylized. Check out the video below.

Cinematic Captures doesn’t work for DICE but is an EA Game Changer. They confirmed to me that they often use OpenGameCam or Nvidia Ansel to take photos or videos since Cinetools —an advanced third-party camera tool for PC— stopped getting support back in 2018.

EA Game Changers are part of EA’s community partnership program that invites creators and expert players to get hands-on with games in development stages for feedback, improvements, as well as early access to capturing gameplay.

The improvements over the years are certainly impressive, especially with character improvements. Last year EA launched the Star Wars Battlefront II: Celebration Edition alongside new updates detailed in the post.

Star Wars Battlefront II is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
