Coming off its Battlefront titles and the release of Jedi: Fallen Order last year, EA is returning to a galaxy far, far away with the upcoming Star Wars: Squadrons this fall. The PS4/Xbox One and PC title is taking players into the pilot seat in a variety of classic Star Wars ships, with EA showcasing the title's first gameplay footage during their latest EA Play livestream.

During EA Play Live 2020, EA and Motive Studios debuted the first gameplay footage from Star Wars: Squadrons, showcasing the space combat title in action. In the gameplay reveal footage, EA gave us a look at both the single-player campaign and multiplayer to show what Squadrons will have to offer when it releases this fall for players to squad up in their favorite Star Wars ships.

EA Motive detailed that the story campaign will shift between the perspectives of two player-created characters from the Rebellion and Empire, while also incorporating new characters and "familiar faces." The gameplay footage also highlighted the game's first-person cockpit view and displays that players can keep track of while piloting their ships, and the extensive customization options that players will have for their ships and pilots. The footage also confirmed that the following ships will be playable in-game for both the Rebellion and Empire:

  • X-Wing
  • A-Wing
  • U-Wing
  • Y-Wing
  • TIE Fighter
  • TIE Interceptor
  • TIE Reaper
  • TIE Bomber

From what we know from the game so far, Star Wars: Squadrons and its single-player campaign will take place after the events of Return of the Jedi. From the reveal trailer earlier in the week, it was also confirmed that the game will support VR on PS4 and PC, and will also provide crossplay support for multiplayer between the console versions and PC.

Star Wars: Squadrons will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 2, 2020.
