Fans of 4x strategy games may have tried out developer Zero Sum Games and publisher Iceberg Interactive’s StarDrive game last year; for fans of that game, it has been announced today that the sequel — StarDrive 2 — will be releasing sometime this year, along with a nice discount to loyal games.

Following a galactic ruler attempting to lead his race to greatness, players of StarDrive 2 will enter procedurally-generated galaxies where they can explore and expand their space empire by exploiting planets, navigating dangerous space terrain, and engaging with other species with both diplomacy, espionage and battle. In battle, StarDrive 2 will combine turn-based strategy with realtime battles, much like its predecessor. Zero Sum promise that no two games will every play the same, especially with the technology available to the play to unlock, the lore to explore, the heroes to encounter, and the “galactic mysteries” to uncover.

StarDrive 2 will be coming to PCs later this year via boxed retail and Steam (as well as “other digital channels”). The game is set to release at $29.99, with Zero Sum and Iceberg planning to reward their fanbase with a loyalty discount of 33% off for owners of the original StarDrive.

The CEO of Zero Sum Games, Daniel DiCicco, had this to say on the sequel:

StarDrive 2 represents the culmination of two decades of love for the 4x genre and five years of work on the StarDrive universe. Here we have taken everything we have learned – our successes, our failures, and our passion – and made a 4x game that we are incredibly proud of.
