Are The Starters or Legendary Pokemon Shiny Locked in BDSP?

November 18, 2021

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are now on the horizon, with the Gen IV remakes launching tomorrow, Friday, November 19.

As with all Pokemon games, different players have different reasons for playing the game. Some will be in for the Diamond and Pearl nostalgia kick, others for competitive battling, while some, like myself, will be looking to shiny hunt.

After completing the game, spending time grinding to find those ultra-rare, different coloured Pokemon is a good time for many, however, before that, some players have other questions.

Here’s the answer as to whether Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s starters or Legendary Pokemon are shiny locked.

What Does “Shiny Locked” Mean?

Put simply, if a Pokemon is shiny locked, it means that its shiny form is unavailable.

This is often the case with special Pokemon, including, but not limited to, those received as a Mystery Gift and other Mythical Pokemon.

Are The Starter Pokemon Shiny Locked in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?

Thankfully, for those looking to kick off Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in style, there’s good news. According to this post on Reddit, the game’s three starters, Piplup, Chimchar and Turtwig aren’t shiny locked.

That doesn’t mean they’ll be easy to come, however, and players will likely have to soft reset their game A LOT.

It should also be noted that the trio won’t appear as shiny until they’re checked, which just adds another few seconds onto the process.

Are The Legendary Pokemon Shiny Locked in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?

Like the three starters, the above Reddit post also states that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s Legendary Pokemon aren’t shiny locked, which is great news for shiny hunters.
