This Week’s State of Decay 2 Concept Art Gets a Little Moody

Where last week's concept art was more about the technical aspects of game development, this week's centers on how a scene establishes tone.

As promised, State of Decay 2 developer Undead Labs has released yet another piece of weekly concept art from the game’s early development.

Last week, we got a look into some of the more technical aspects of game development with an example of how lighting is established. This week, the developer wanted to share a piece that focused more on the game’s tone.

The artist for this piece says he feels that some scenes speak for themselves and evoke feelings that allow for strong contrasts to the world around the player.

“Sometimes the story is a simple one […] That one was really a mood piece more than anything. State of Decay has always tried to emphasize the quiet moments and the beauty from a still world. It helps punctuate the moments when things go ….bad.”
