When it comes to concept designs for the new Steam Deck handheld console, this retro woodgrain beauty comes out tops.

By now, you have more than likely seen the brand new Steam Deck console from Valve that places the power of a PC into the palms of players hands. With the ability to run almost anything that a computer can, the Steam Deck will offer the comfort of playing on the go as well as the good old nostalgic feeling of handheld gaming.

Boosting two analogue sticks, two touchpads, analogue triggers, ABXY face buttons, four rear buttons, gyro controls, a custom Zen 2 AMD processor, USB-C port and microSD slot - it sounds incredible and something I personally can't wait to get my hands on. The only thing that would maybe make it better was if it featured some stunning retro wood grain panelling resembling the Atari 2600.

Although we may not get that anytime soon, if at all, thank god for mockup artists who can make that dream a reality even if it's just for show.

Steam Deck CRT Mockup

Classic Mac collector and artist Dana Sibera, who loves to showcase their retro hardware on social media, has provided a sleek mockup of a retro version of the Steam Deck and it's just too cool for words. Coated in a smooth dark wood design, Sibera has given all of those who owned an Atari 2600 back in the day a walk down memory lane.

Equipped with an old school CRT screen, Sibera shoots their viewers back in time. All that is missing is an FM radio and maybe a tape deck included somewhere in the design to really hit those nostalgic vibes. Obviously, this isn't really unfortunately but who knows, maybe Valve, like the Nintendo Switch, will sell different cases to allow players to style their Steam Deck how they please.

Steam Deck will begin shipping in December 2021. Even though you can't pre-order one just yet, you can reserve a Steam Deck starting Friday, July 16 at 10 am PT/ 6 pm BST.
