Developers yesterday received an email, or read an announcement from Steamworks, the website available only to developers who have games on Steam. The announcement introduces a new feature called Remote Play Together which is said to be launching later this month. While no official details have been publically posted by Valve themselves, the details come from numerous developers who have shared the announcement that was posted to the Steamworks website.

Remote Play Together will offer local multiplayer games the ability to allow players online to join local multiplayer games. The feature will allow two or more players to join with one developer saying, "Only the host needs to own the game, and can invite remote friends to play online."

The email that developers received specifies that all local multiplayer, local co-op, and split-screen games are going to be automatically included in the Remote Play Together beta. A FAQ was included in the email, but the source is only a screenshot of the main body of the text. More details are no doubt going to head our way when Valve publically shares details.

We've seen remote play being used on PS4 and there are services such as Parsec that support similar remote play. But this will introduce Steam users to the joys of enjoying local-only games with friends from around the world.

The beta for Steam's upcoming Remote Play Together is slated to launch on October 21.
