Steins;Gate 10th Anniversary Projects Announced

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, ten different projects related to the Steins;Gate franchise have been teased. Needless to say, not all of these ten projects will turn out to be new games. It could be anything from live concerts, new anime adaptations, new manga adaptations, new novel adaptations, fan-meeting events, talkshows, and more. It could even be completely mundane things like new Steins;Gate Line stamps getting announced. I highly recommend not setting your expectations too high, but it’s not far-fetched to think a new game sequel will be among these new projects.

Steins;Gate is one of the most popular visual novel franchises in the world, and basically is a mystery story dealing with time travel and parallel worlds. The series got many anime adaptations since the first game. Steins;Gate is also part of a larger franchise, the “Science Adventure Series”, which includes the Chaos;Head series,  the Robotics;Notes series, and the Chaos;Child series. Each one of these are connected and set in the same universe, sometimes sharing characters. All games part of the Science Adventure Series are directed by Shikura Chiyomaru, the director of 5pb. Games, who also handles part of the games’ OSTs.

Steins;Gate is also heavily inspired from older visual novels penned by the late Kanno Hiroyuki: Eve Burst Error, which is getting a new sequel this April in Japan, and most notably YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World, which is getting an anime adaptation this Spring 2019. A remake of YU-NO by 5pb. Games was also released in Japan in 2017 on PS4 and PS Vita, and on March 2019 on Switch. Spike ChunSoft will publish the Yu-No remake in the west in 2019, on PS4 and PC via Steam.

The last game in the Steins;Gate franchise is currently Steins;Gate Elite, released in February 2019. It’s a remake of the first game. It includes scenes from the first anime adaptation along with brand new animated scenes. It also contains another full-fledged game, Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram.

Ten fake projects were also initially published as part of an April Fool’s joke.
