Paradox Interactive, kings of the grand strategy, have really found their niche on PC. Games like Hearts of Iron IV, Europa Universalis IV, and Stellaris are all have in scale, require tons of micromanaging, and have tons of DLC and expansions. It has yet to be seen if this niche section of the strategy genre would work well on consoles, though Paradox Interactive is planning to find out soon as they have announced Stellaris: Console Edition for PS4 and Xbox One.

Stellaris: Console Edition is being developed with the help of Tantalus Media, who have on games like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and ports such as Sonic Mania for Nintendo Switch and the console versions of Paradox Interactive's own Cities: Skylines. At launch, Stellaris: Console Edition will be content equivalent to version 1.7 of the PC game, and will receive a steady stream of updates, DLC, and expansions afterward.

A Deluxe Edition will also be available, which will net players the Plantoids Species Pack, Leviathans Story Pack and Utopia Expansion as soon as they release on PS4 and Xbox One. Stellaris: Console Edition also be playable at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany between August 21 and August 25 in  Hall 9.1 at booth A-060. Daniel Moregård, Game Director at Paradox Interactive, discussed finally bringing the grand strategy genre to consoles:

"Grand Strategy is often considered a niche genre even on the PC, but we believe that while a console audience exists, a game like Stellaris simply hasn’t made it to those platforms yet. With the help of Tantalus’ expertise, we’re happy to take that leap! Console players can look forward to the true Grand Strategy experience and continued DLC and support after launch with Stellaris: Console Edition."

Check out the first trailer for the console ports below. Stellaris is currently available on PC and can be picked up on Humble Bundle, while Stellaris: Console Edition does not yet have a release date for PS4 and Xbox One.
