After Housemarque announced its plans to abandon the arcade genre last year, many of us were left wondering what they would do next. At Gamescom 2018, Housemarque officially unveiled Stormdivers, which turned out to be a sci-fi battle royale game. Following its appearance at that European event, a new gameplay video has been released, going a bit more in-depth on how the game works.

At the start of each round, players rocket towards the ground in customizable drop-pods. Each character is part of a class that comes with its own glider and two special abilities, which can be for movement, offensive, or defensive purposes. The developers really wanted the game's movement to feel well-developed and satisfying, making it a clear focus of this video. Towards the end of the gameplay, the developers tease the tornado rampaging across the map.

Hopefully, Housemarque's pedigree of game quality carries over as the ever-growing battle royale genre is becoming harder and harder to be noticed in. Some multiplayer titles, including battle royale games, just flat-out fail at launch, and I analyzed why this happens in a recent editorial.

You can check out the new gameplay video below. Stormdivers will hit PC sometime in 2019, with Housemarque promising to continuously support the game after launch.
