Japanese company Marvelous announced today through a statement that it reached an agreement with Chinese company Tencent in order to create a Story of Seasons mobile game.

The statement details that Marvelous is only providing authorization to Tencent to use the Story of Seasons license. The Story of Seasons mobile game's development and publishing will all be handled by Tencent. Nothing else was revealed about the game for now. No release date estimate was published either.

Despite the popularity of mobile games, in Japan especially, and how multiple longtime games franchises already got multiple mobile games, Story of Seasons never received a mobile game in the past. This is a first in the history of the franchise.

Story of Seasons, known as Bokujou Monogatari in Japan, is a farming simulation series going since 1996, with over 33 games in total. The featured picture above is from Bokujou Monogatari: Futago no Mura+/Story of Seasons: The Tale of Two Towns+ released only in Japan on 3DS in 2017. It's currently the last main game in the series and directed by series veteran Yoshimoto Hashifumi.

The spinoff farming + action RPG series born from Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, is also coming back in 2019 with a remaster of Rune Factory 4 on Switch and a brand new Rune Factory 5, also on Switch, planned for 2020 in Japan.

Meanwhile, the next console game in the Story of Seasons franchise will be a crossover with intergenerational anime phenomenon Doraemon. Titled Doraemon Nobita no Bokujou Monogatari, the game will launch in Japan on Switch in 2019. You can watch its first trailer here.
