Streets of Rage 4 is Going to Feature Music from Several Classic Japanese Composers
Yuzo Koshiro, Motohiro Kawashima, Yoko Shimomura, Hideki Naganuma, Keiji Yamagishi are all creating music for Streets of Rage 4.
Streets of Rage 4 was an unexpected retro revival when it was unveiled last August, and since then we have been learning more and more about the game. Guard Crush Game, Lizardcube, and DotEmu recently revealed that when it comes to Streets of Rage 4’s soundtrack, classic Streets of Rage composers Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima will be returning.
This partnership was apparently possible thanks to a Japanese label for game musicians called Brave Wave Productions. While Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima are the most notable composers as they worked on the original Streets of Rage games, three other artists were also unveiled today. Yoko Shimomura, who has worked on Street Fighter II, Kingdom Hearts, and Parasite Eve, Hideki Naganuma of Jet Set Radio Future and Super Monkey Ball fame, and Ninja Gaiden and Tecmo Bowl’s Keiji Yamagishi will also be creating original music for Streets of Rage 4.
The developers are quite enthusiastic about having so many composers of classic games on board, with Executive Producer Cyrille Imbert saying “Among these names stand some of the most legendary and memorable musical architects in video game history. Since we first announced the title last fall, fans have been asking who will be involved in the game’s soundtrack as it is a vital element to the Streets of Rage games. We are thrilled to confirm this world-class lineup of musical talent for Streets of Rage 4.” DotEmu also hinted that there are “more surprises” in store when it comes to Streets of Rage 4’s soundtrack, so it will be interesting to see what they mean by that.
You can check out a new video below where the composers try out Streets of Rage 4, discuss the soundtrack, and reflect on how western studios are handling the continuation of the series. No platforms or release window have been given for the game at this time.
