Experience the World of HP Lovecraft in Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones

Experience the strange worlds of HP Lovecraft in Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, a turn-based roleplaying game of horror, loss, and madness.

July 28, 2018

Publisher 1C Company has announced a game set in the strange worlds of HP Lovecraft called Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, a roleplaying game of horror, loss, and madness. The game was developed by Cultic Games and has strategic, turn-based combat from a 2D perspective.

In Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, players will choose from 8 main character archetypes, each with their own backstory and specialties, and journey from a doomed Arkham into the depths of the Abyss. The game’s enemies, environments, and storylines are inspired by Lovecraft’s original works, and a host of weird companions will accompany players on their journey.

The trailer features a tableau of creepy imagery and scattered words written in blood urging players to investigate the strange occurrences in the city and to survive the rise of darkness both physically and mentally. The game’s belief system determines how your character copes with the warped reality of the new Arkham as well as the rate that they regenerate lost sanity, and their mental state will influence dialogue options. Sometimes being crazy will even have unique advantages.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones will be released in 2019 for PC, Mac, and Linux. You can check out the story announcement trailer below, and if you’d like to see some gameplay, head over to Steam to try out an early demo of the game.
