Close to two years after fully releasing, Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced the latest sales numbers for its survival game Subnautica.

As reported in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Unknown Worlds founder Charlie Cleveland stated that Subnautica has now surpassed over 5 million copies sold in total. This number is made up of sales across PS4, Xbox One, and PC sales on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. To be quite specific, Cleveland also stated that the current sales total for Subnautica sits at 5.23 million.

For an early access project such as Subnautica, these sales numbers are actually quite impressive. What's even more impressive is that this total isn't comprised of any free downloads of the game that some may have received, either. Last year, Subnautica was a free title on the Epic Games Store and was said to have been downloaded over 4.5 million times within the two-week span in which it was free. In total, this means that the game has been downloaded close to 10 million times.

While it's not currently known what Unknown Worlds plans to do with Subnautica moving forward, the game's most recent expansion, entitled Below Zero, released last year to high praise. Regardless of what might be planned for the franchise moving forward, it seems as though Unknown Worlds will have a fair amount of fans that may follow them to whatever is next.
