Sundered Kickstarter Finishes with over $200,000 CAD, Physical Copies Still Available

We’ve definitely covered Sundered here before on DualShockers. The smooth animations, beautiful artwork, and Lovecraftian metroidvania gameplay were immediate draws for me. Now the game is growing up beyond its Kickstarter success story and moving onto the real development period.

4681 backers brought the initial goal of $25,000 CAD (approx $19,000 USD) up to over $202,000 CAD (approx $154,000 USD). The title proved to be so popular that it caught the eye of Limited Run Games, and they partnered with developer Thunder Lotus Games.

Those who backed at the $100 CAD level (approx $75 USD) secured a physical copy of Sundered that will be published by LRG. And even though the Kickstarter itself is over, there’s still a chance to snag this deal on the game’s Humble Store. You should hurry though since this chance for latecomers is only open until February 23rd.

The team is now working on the Alpha and Beta of the game. The former will be out later this Month while the latter will be delivered in April. Not surprisingly, Thuder Lotus will be ‘collecting and implementing feedback from [players]’ during these playtesting periods.

For those who have forgotten, here are a few of the features to look forward to:

  • Beautiful hand-drawn art
  • Massive boss fights
  • Dynamic encounters against hordes of enemies
  • A mix of hand-crafted & procedural levels
  • Corruptible abilities
  • Multiple endings

They hope to release the game in July but cannot give an exact release date as of yet. The dispersal of DLC and physical copies will happen in the future but the team cannot give any time frame for that information at the moment. The game is due out for the PC and PS4.

It’s nice to hear of crowdfunding successes such as Sundered and I hope these games that have a lot of talent and passion behind them continue to be backed by lots of people. This was one campaign that made me a convert.
