Earlier today, Sony Interactive Entertainment surprised everyone when it announced that it had acquired Marvel's Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank developer Insomniac Games. When it happened, many people were curious and concerned about what was going to happen, if anything, to the Sunset Overdrive franchise, given that it was previously exclusive to Xbox One. Well, it seems like even Sony themselves are uncertain, as revealed in an interview with SIE Worldwide Studios chairman, Shawn Layden.

According to the interview by The Hollywood Reporter, Layden revealed that they haven't even looked into what Sunset Overdrive's future would be like on PlayStation platforms, or any platforms for that matter.

"That was a great experience for Insomniac and they learned a lot through that, as well. As far as the IP itself, we really haven’t turned over the files on that one to see what that actually means, to be honest. We like what they’ve been doing in the Spider-Man franchise and things like Ratchet & Clank are certainly vital series in the present and future. That’s what we’re concentrating on."

Given that wording, it seems like Sony is more focused on Insomniac's two most popular franchises right now: Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank. That being said, the Sunset Overdrive franchise can technically now appear on PlayStation platforms as Insomniac, not Microsoft, are the ones that own the IP itself.

Nevertheless, it'll be very interesting to see if PlayStation does anything with the IP later down the road, although if I were to hazard a guess, it's pretty safe to assume their next game will more than likely be a sequel to the wildly successful Marvel's Spider-Man, which hit PlayStation 4 last September.
