Earlier this year, multiple reports popped up indicating that for the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario series, Nintendo would be bringing back some of the famed plumber's most iconic adventures on the Switch. While we have yet to see this come to fruition just yet, a new discovery online may add credence to the original reports.

Noticed by VGC, a new Twitter account that seems to be dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Super Mario has now been discovered. The account, which goes by the username @supermario35th, is currently set to private and has no followers or tweets just yet. Similar to the Prince of Persia account that many found a few weeks back, this looks to purely be a placeholder that Nintendo may opt to use at some point in the future.

Of course, there is however the contention that this Twitter account in question may or may not belong to Nintendo proper. If you try to recover the account, the email that it seems to be registered to does seem to be tied to a Japanese-based Nintendo domain, adding credibility to it.

As noted by VGC though, it's also worth pointing out that this placeholder account wasn't created until after the reports involving the 35th anniversary Super Mario celebrations started popping up this year. As such, there is a chance that a fan or someone trying to pull a fast one on the general public could have jumped on this Twitter handle at that time. Still, those assumptions seem to not carry much weight, especially considering if such a thing was done, this private Twitter account likely would have "leaked" earlier.

In my own personal estimation, this does definitely seem to be a Twitter account tied to Nintendo and I imagine we'll see it being active soon enough. That said, it is a bit odd that we're seven months into 2020 and Nintendo hasn't opted to utilize this account just yet. Considering this account would seemingly only be used during the 35th anniversary of Mario, to only have it be active for the next 5 months or so seems a bit bizarre. Then again, what the heck do I know about video game marketing?

As for what the 35th anniversary celebrations are reportedly going to consist of, Nintendo is said to be planning remasters of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy to re-release later this year. While Nintendo hasn't currently announced plans for a future Direct, hopefully, the announcement regarding this slate of remasters is divulged soon enough.
