To celebrate the 35 year anniversary of the original launch of Super Mario Bros. Nintendo is revitalizing that old release by adding 34 more Marios to it.Titled Super Mario Bros 35, this new twist on the battle royale genre shares some traits with Tetris 99. 35 players must run through classic Mario stages, dodging baddies and jumping over pits as you normally would. The twist is, every defeated enemy is sent to another player's game. You may be fine one second, then the next your screen is filled with spinies. Just like every other battle royale title, the goal is to be the last player standing.Baddies aren't the only threat to your runs in Super Mario Bros. 35 though. Each player also has a timer that constantly counts down. Assumedly, once it reaches zero, you're out of the game. Not to worry though, it can be refilled by defeating enemies and sending them over to other opponents.

There are also a couple of tools you can use to get out ahead of the other Marios you're going up against. An item roulette wheel, like the ones you might see at the end of levels in Super Mario Bros. 3, is available to give players an extra mushroom, fire flower or even star power-up if they get lucky. There will also be four different "situations" you can implement that somehow change the game up to give you another advantage over enemies, although it's not entirely clear how those work.

Super Mario Bros. 35 will be exclusive to Nintendo Online customers, although its release will also come with some quirks. The game will be launching October 1, but will be live for a limited time, only until March 31, 2021.
