Last week sure was a wild one for Mario fans. The surprise 35th Anniversary Direct dropped and bestowed tonnes of information about upcoming Mario games upon us. Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury is coming next February. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a mixed-reality game that's bringing Mario Kart to your living room and most importantly Super Mario 3D All-Stars was revealed and is releasing next week!

Now the hype has died down a little, it's time to talk about one of the smaller announcements - the 35th Anniversary collaboration between Mario and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Aside from the announcement that the crossover is coming in March next year, Nintendo shared few specifics of what it will actually entail. They do use the words "Super Mario themed furniture" in the quick announcement however, which would imply that potentially they're bringing across the set that has featured in every Animal Crossing title up to this point.

The Mario theme set first appeared in the original Animal Crossing for the N64 or GameCube, depending on where you are in the world, and consists of a range of items that have appeared in the world of Mario. The items range from Green Shells and Bullet Bill Blasters to 1-Up Mushrooms and Super Stars and are a really cool addition to any room. Usually, the items come in 8-bit form, however, in New Leaf, they were styled more after the New Super Mario games.

Animal Crossing games have never shied away from adding homages to other games, with items from Pikmin, Metroid and Zelda appearing over the years. Here's hoping the Super Mario set is the first in a long line of crossovers and with The Legend of Zelda's 35th anniversary coming next year, don't be surprised to see a collaboration there.

Keep your eyes peeled here for any more Super Mario 35th Anniversary or Animal Crossing news.
