Super Mario Maker 2 is pretty nice, but missing online multiplayer with friends was one of its biggest weak points. But now, today's rising sun marks the beginning of a new era, an era where you'll finally be able to play the best Mario game with people on your Switch's friend list. Now the only hurdle left is to actually manage to make people you want to play with adding you in their friends list, something I personally have trouble with.

Nintendo America announced on Twitter that Online Co-op and Versus with friends list players is finally available in Super Mario Maker 2. Unlike Global Play, you can now create rooms and either invite friends over, or play with nearby players. Up to four players can join a room, and everyone's scores are tracked so long as you don't dismiss the room.

Super Mario Maker 2 is available on Nintendo Switch. The game already went over 2 million copies sold worldwide, with players having uploaded over 4 million courses. Nintendo is also thinking of making similar "Maker" iterations for their other big games. This is how the dungeon maker in the Link's Awakening Switch remake was born. Hopefully, we'll get an actual, proper Zelda Maker game one day.
