Today, Edmund McMillen -- the developer best known for Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Issac -- announced his new game: The End is Nigh.

In development for PC and Nintendo Switch, the game is actually also right around the corner: prepared to launch on July 12th on PC. As for the Switch version, it will arrive "later," alongside, "possibly" other consoles (presumably the PS4 and Xbox One).

Being co-developed by Tyler Glaiel (Closure), The End is Nigh is a sprawling adventure platformer where the player takes control of Ash, one of the few "things" that has "survived" the "end of the world."

In the game you will follow Ash as he flops his way "through a future of pain and suffering...as you throw him into an endless swarm of decaying, mutant animal-like creatures and help aid his final epic quest… to simply make a friend (out of pieces of people he finds along his journey)."

Along the way you will apparently collect video game cartridges and tumors, across more than 600 levels within 12-plus explorable chapters, The 20-plus collectible cartridges are said to be their own fully playable mini games. As for the "little squishy tumors" to collect, there are 100s to collect

Additionally, there will be many extras and endings to find in the game. And of course like McMillen's previous games: it will be hard.
