After months of rumors, SEGA finally announced the return of the fan favorite Super Monkey Ball series. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD was officially announced back in mid-July. Today, we're getting a first peak at the title's gameplay. It looks like classic Monkey Ball fun. Check it out for yourself below.

As mentioned above, the remake of this classic Monkey Ball title looks to be coming along well. The updated visuals are obviously gorgeous and SEGA's brought back everything players loved in the original Wii game. It may take a bit of getting used to for veteran players as they've replaced the motion controls from the Wii with tightened analog controls. That said, you should feel much more in command of your monkey's movement with these updated controls.

Banana Blitz HD will include 100 single-player stages and 10 multi-player stages for you and your friends to roll through. The game will also introduce online leaderboards for single-player Time Attack and the all-new Mini-Game Decathalon. That's a welcome addition that the Monkey Ball community must be very happy to finally have.

I haven't played a Monkey Ball game since renting the first one on Gamecube for multiple weekends in a row back in 2001 (thanks Movie Gallery). However, it's one of my favorite games to watch people speed run. I'm excited for both an opportunity to get back into a great game series and to have a new game to watch competent players destroy on Twitch.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on October 29. It will on PC later in 2019.
