Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD Confirmed for the West
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD comes to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on October 29 and PC in the Winter.
After both a trademark filing in May and a rating in Taiwan last week, Sega announced Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball earlier today via Famitsu. Following that Japanese announcement, many fans were wondering if the Banana Blitz remaster was heading westward; fortunately, Sega was quick to confirm that it will be coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the west later this year as Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. Check out its announcement trailer, which does not show any gameplay, below.
The PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will be arriving on October 29, which is actually two days before Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball releases in Japan. While a PC release via Steam is also planned, Sega only has a vague “winter 2019” launch window for the port for now. The game will cost $39.99 across all platforms and will see a physical release.
As for the game itself, Sega reiterated that it is a remaster of the 2006 Wii game. As such, it includes that 100 single-player stages and 10 multiplayer mini-games that were in the original release. When it comes to what’s being remastered or added, Sega is updating the visuals, adding a Mini-Game Decathlon Score Attack Mode, online leaderboards for the aforementioned mode and Time Attack, and fresh controls that will be “uniquely optimized…for each platform.” This seems to suggest that the Nintendo Switch version of the game may feature motion control options while the PS4 and Xbox One releases will have more standard control schemes.
