Reservations to preview the first look at the highly-anticipated Super Nintendo World theme park were supposed to open on January 5. However, an outage experienced by Universal's site at the time resulted in confusion over the downtime, no one being able to make their registrations, and the whole process being rescheduled to next week.It had previously been announced that the U.S. iteration of the Super Nintendo World theme park, located at Universal Studios Hollywood, would formally open to the public on February 17. Visitors will be able to use Power-Up Bands to interact with various elements around the park, as well as track points from the AR-enhanced Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge attraction. The park will also include a cafe, souvenir shops, and costumed characters.RELATED: Super Nintendo World Reveals First Look At Bowser's Challenge, Toadstool Cafe, And More

In the run-up to experiencing all that, Universal is set to hold Pass Member Preview dates for its Annual or Season Pass holders. These special preview events will be happening on January 29-31, February 3-4, and February 8-11. Reservations for these dates were supposed to open for Pass Members on January 5, but a "network outage" caused Universal's site to crash at the time. Many of course speculated that the mad dash by eager fans to make reservations is what specifically overloaded the site, but Universal itself made no acknowledgment of such effects, releasing a statement in which only a general outage was referenced, alongside the rescheduled reservation date of January 9.

It's another bump in the Rainbow Road for the sort of high-profile launch of an attraction with multiple moving parts. The original Super Nintendo World in Japan itself saw delays before opening in March 2021 due a COVID-19 state of emergency being declared. An FAQ posted by Universal regarding the preview for the Universal Studios Hollywood location of Super Nintendo World also notes that the event is a "technical rehearsal" or soft opening, and as such are subject to "obsessional delay, closure or cancellation". Whether Universal has gotten the kinks worked out of their registration system for the second try will remain to be seen, but interested Pass Members can take their chances when the reservation system opens again on Monday, January 9, at 11am PST.
