As eSports have grown in popularity within the past decade, so too have their prominence in being broadcast on much larger networks such as ESPN and more, with Disney's gaming focused programming block "Disney XP" to air some of the events from EVO 2017 this weekend.

Disney announced has announced that the EVO 2017 finals for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be broadcast live on Disney XD's new gaming-focused programming block, Disney XP, this Sunday, July 16th, 2017 at 3pm PT/6pm ET, allowing viewers of the station to get in on the EVO festivities right from their living rooms.

Disney's airing of the Smash Bros. finals will be the second major live broadcast of EVO 2017 alongside ESPN's airing of the finals for Street Fighter V during the national fighting game competition.

The initiative from Disney is coinciding with the launch of Disney XP, which will be the nightly programming block of Disney XD to provide viewers with gaming-focused content including original series, and a variety of programs centered around popular YouTubers and game streamers. The block will officially be kicking off on Saturday, July 15th, and will air on Disney XD from 9pm to 3am.
