There's been a lot of talk about whether or not Red Dead Redemption 2 or Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will end up being 2018's best-selling game but it seems like Nintendo's newly released Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could be coming in hot right behind them.

According to Amazon, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the best-selling video game item in all of 2018 -- which is downright crazy. Not only does this take into account other video game software and hardware, but it also includes smaller accessories and other items such currency cards for the Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox digital stores. By the end of each year, these digital store cards usually always take the top spots on Amazon's best-selling video game chart, so the fact that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has somehow found a way to surpass them all is nuts.

Of course, it's important to note that these numbers are only reflective of Amazon, so just because Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has come out above the rest at this retailer doesn't mean it'll dominate at others. In fact, Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 will almost certainly still have higher sales by year's end (being on multiple platforms with higher install bases definitely helps), but that doesn't make this feat from Smash Bros. any less impressive. We'll see if it can continue to retain this first place position as 2018 draws to an end.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out as of today on Nintendo Switch. If you want to join the masses who have seemingly already purchased the game, you can pick it up on Amazon right now.
