While there hasn't been a NCAA football game in years, that doesn't mean that the college football experience has to be completely devoid of gaming. Most of you are probably aware that Nintendo is releasing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this December, and today they revealed that they will be showing off Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at nine college football games prior to launch.

This is happening due to a partnership with Wendy's College Tailgate Tour. A Super Smash Bros. Ultimate trailer will show up at all nine games and contain six gameplay stations for fans to try out the game in. Players will that win will also receive special promotional items for the game. Nintendo will also be holding similar demo events, sans trailer, at Best Buys around the country.

This is certainty an interesting marketing tactic for Nintendo, but it will let a core part of their audience try out a near-final build of the highly-anticipated game before it releases. You can check out the full list of dates and games this Super Smash Bros. Ultimate College Tailgate Tour will be at below:

  • Sept. 22 – Stanford @ Oregon
  • Oct. 6 – Alabama @ Arkansas
  • Oct. 13 – Wisconsin @ Michigan
  • Oct. 20 – Oklahoma @ TCU
  • Oct. 27 – Clemson @ FSU
  • Nov. 3 – South Carolina @ Ole Miss
  • Nov. 10 – TCU @ West Virginia
  • Nov. 17 – Miami @ Virginia Tech
  • Nov. 24 – Michigan @ Ohio State

The game will also make an appearance at a game on January 1, 2019, but the teams and locations for that game have not been decided upon yet. Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser also gave some insight as to why Nintendo decided to partner with Wendy's College Tailgate Tour for this Super Smash Bros. Ultimate promotion:

"Many of our biggest fans are now in college and have memories growing up playing one of the games in the Super Smash Bros. series. We want to bring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate directly to longtime and first-time players, and what better way than to combine two of college students’ favorite pastimes: video games and football."

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently poised to launch for Nintendo Switch on December 7. If you already know you want the game, or decide that you want to pre-order after trying the title out for yourself after trying it at one of these games, you can pre-order it on Amazon.
