New hint tweeted by Sakurai (October 4 update)

On October 4, Sakurai tweeted yet another hint regarding the presentation, this time much more intriguing than the last one. It seems like the director might be trying to dampen expectations, expecting that many Super Smash Bros Ultimate players won’t know the final character. I translated the tweet below.

Masahiro Sakurai: “I think the new fighter might be a character you don’t know about, or that might be different from the various expectations each one of you has. But I hope you’ll still enjoy the stream regardless. I had a lot of fun recording it myself.”

Personally, I’m full of hopium right now and awaiting even more either Adol from Ys, Laala from PriPara, or Reimu from Touhou. The tweet from director Sakurai is included below, and our original story is further below.

Masahiro Sakurai shares new message on final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character on Twitter

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai tweeted on October 3, advertising the final DLC reveal stream as a “celebration of gaming”.

Masahiro Sakurai: “We’re getting closer to the reveal…
On October 5th, the final SumaBura SP DLC fighter will be revealed! This will be our last celebration of gaming. I really hope you will all be watching it live. You should definitely mark the date on your schedules and calendars!”

With this tweet, Masahiro Sakurai reminded us one final time that the DLC characters in the Fighter Pass Vol.2 are a “Celebration of gaming”. This might be a hint pointing out the final character will be again from a 3rd party. Instead of a Nintendo character.

Except for Min Min from Arms and Homura / Hikari from Xenoblade 2, all the characters in Fighters Pass Vol. 2 were from third parties, so it’s possibly happening again. It’s definitely interesting Sakurai decided to reiterate this now, two days before the reveal.

Director Sakurai also shared the same tweet in English

The final “Mr. Sakurai Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presents” stream will be held on October 5 at 10 AM EST. Masahiro Sakurai was also recently featured on the Harada’s Bar video interviews where he shared a ton of interesting details and comments on the game industry, it’s a must-watch even if you don’t like Smash Bros.

In case you didn’t hear about it, In May 2021, Masahiro Sakurai also ended his bi-weekly column in Famitsu Magazine, after 18 years. This is where he had most notably praised Death Stranding and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. He also chatted about Cyberpunk 2077. His column was sadly regularly mistranslated over the years. The final one was no exception as it triggered a rumor claiming Sakurai was about to retire, while he never said that.

The presentation on October 5 might also give us some hints on the future of Smash Bros after the Fighter Pass Vol.2. You can always reach out to me on Twitter @A_iyane07 to chat about Japanese games. Be sure to check the rest of our TGS 2021 coverage too.
