Among the literal dozens of announcements that were made in today's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, one noteworthy tease was made by the game's director Masahiro Sakurai.

Upon revealing a slate of new characters, details about stages, and furthering unveiling new Pokemon and Assist Trophies, Sakurai also showcased the main menu of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This alone isn't all that worthy of news, but one major tease was provided upon the menu's reveal.

In addition to the usual slate of Smash, Online, and additional bonus game mode options at your disposal in the menu, one noticeably large selection was still hidden. Sakurai teased that whatever is hidden behind this panel is not ready to be revealed just yet and that they'll talk about it soon.

My gut instinct would say that this is some sort of solo play game mode that we've seen in Smash games previously. Classic or Adventure mode would make the most sense, but I'm curious about the possibility of Sakurai potentially wanting to create another story-based mode like they did in Super Smash Bros. Brawl with The Subspace Emissary. I highly doubt this is the case, but I'm definitely interested to learn more.

So what do you think Sakurai and company are teasing behind this mysterious green blob? Be sure to let me know down in the comments.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will launch on December 7, exclusively for the Switch. Right now, you can pre-order the game on Amazon to reserve yourself a copy on day one.
