Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Will Focus on NES Games in the Next Spirits Event
Characters from NES and Famicom games are the focus in the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirits event this upcoming weekend.
Nintendo is almost at a full month since the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and they seem to have set a precedent of regular weekly Spirit events. This weekend, the new event is a nostalgia-driven one called “Classics!” or “Now You’re Playing With Spirit Power!” The focus this time around is on NES/Famicom games and characters from those titles.
Previous Spirits events include the very first one featuring characters wearing glasses, with the most recent event being themed around Super Mario Party. While Spirits are generally available to unlock on the Spirit Board, events such as this will have the themed Spirits appear more often. Additionally, defeating the themed Spirits will unlock more “snacks” than usual, snacks being items that are fed to Spirits for better stats.
Legend-class Spirits will be the hardest ones to unlock, and this event has “Donkey Kong & Lady” (that’s Pauline, for you younger folks), “Link (The Legend of Zelda),” and “Sukapon” being classified as Legends. These will be showing up periodically compared to the other event Spirits, which will all appear randomly on the Spirit Board.
These Spirits are as follows:
- Kid Dracula
- Donkey Kong Jr.
- Donbe & Hikari
- Balloon Fighter
- Wild Gunman
- Goku & Chao
- Ayumi Tachibana
- Hockey Players
- Volleyball Player
- Mach Rider
- Urban Champion Fighter
- Tennis Player
- Pitcher & Batter
- Eggplant Man
Ah yes, even the unnamed sports players in those old NES titles. Truly, everyone is here.
The event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is a Switch exclusive game, will run from January 4 to 7. Check out our review of the game here.
