The Switch Has Now Been the Bestselling Console in the US for 23 Straight Months
The Nintendo Switch continues to be the hottest console on the market right now and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
I think it is pretty safe to say that Nintendo might have a hit on its hands with the Nintendo Switch. The hybrid console has gone on to break countless sales records for the company and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. The Switch just saw its best October ever and has been the best selling console in the United States for the 23rd month in a row.
According to data from the NPD Group (via The Verge), the Nintendo Switch sold 735,926 units for both the Switch and the Switch Lite in the month of October. This is a 136 percent increase compared to last year’s October.
Nintendo has a couple of reasons behind the success of the console, especially for the month of October. Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s SVP of sales and marketing, shared some insight with The Verge on what has gone so right for the company. He stated: “Certainly the covid pandemic has created more opportunities to stay at home, more playtime at home. We’ve seen unprecedented demand for Nintendo Switch throughout the course of the year.”
With everyone having to stay home, there probably wasn’t a better game to release than Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In a world where nobody could go outside to do really anything, Nintendo supplied us with an experience where we could go outside and experience somethings. On top of that, the Animal Crossing-themed Switch made its way back to store shelves in October, contributing to the great success the system saw in the month.
As I stated above, the Nintendo Switch shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Even with the releases of the Xbox Series X|S and PS5, the hybrid console is bound to have another great holiday season. The worldwide sales number has reached 68 million, but I have a feeling it will reach Wii sales numbers sometimes soon.
