Switch Exclusive Yo-Kai Watch 4 is Now Coming to PS4 Too

Level-5 announced Yo-Kai Watch is coming to PS4 for the first time ever.

September 12, 2019

Level 5 announced on the first day of Tokyo Game Show 2019 they’re porting Yo-Kai Watch 4 to PS4. The announcement was made with a trailer showing the game running on PS4:

While I haven’t imported Yo-kai Watch 4 myself, an acquaintance and fan of the series told me it’s the best Yo-Kai Watch game yet. The battle system, which changed into 3D action battle, is particularly well done as well.

Sadly, the initial release week sales of Yo-Kai Watch 4 in Japan was among the smallest launch for the series. It’s a bit tragic Level-5 improved the series so much but ended up plagued with delays, and in my opinion, milked it too much, making it less and less popular. Yo-Kai Watch was actually more popular than Pokemon in Japan in the early 2010’s.

Perhaps Level-5 decided on this PS4 port to give the game a bigger chance. While Level-5 certainly decided on this port long ago, I’d guess it wasn’t decided right from the start of development, seeing Level-5 usually always released Yo-Kai Watch on Nintendo handhelds.

Yo-Kai Watch 4 released on Switch on June 2019 in Japan. The game was announced in the west but has no release date.

The first Yo-Kai Watch game is also getting an HD remaster on Switch. Level-5’s President Akihiro Hino also spoke about some upcoming projects in an interview, including a new unannounced Ni No Kuni game.

Tokyo Game Show 2019 is happening right now, from September 12 to 15. You can check out our schedule with time conversions here.
