Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris has a gacha-like system for cosmetics, DLC and Premium Pass includes half as much content as base game.

March 22, 2020

Dengeki Online and Bandai Namco revealed Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris’ DLC and Premium Pass contents in the latest stream dedicated to the game. In a nutshell, the game will get free monthly content including Raid Bosses, and a Premium Pass with exclusive content as big as half of the base game. We also learned Alicization Lycoris basically has its own gacha system for cosmetics. Everything is detailed below.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris will include a Daily Quest system, with objectives such as defeating 10 types of a certain enemy, gathering 5 units of a certain item, using 10 Sword Skills, doing 3 Link Attacks with a certain character, etc.

Clearing Daily Quests will be one way to earn Cube Tickets. You can use these tickets to get Cubes, which contain random accessories, weapon skins, costumes, emotes and other cosmetics. Weapons skins and all cosmetics will not influence the characters’ stats. The game also has an in-game currency called SAO Coins, which you can buy with real money. Then, you can spend SAO Coins to directly buy the costumes and cosmetics, without trying your luck at the gacha.

The pricing for SAO Coins. 100 Yen is 100 SAO Coins, and the more you buy, the less expensive it is. Typical gacha marketing. Needless to say, this is the Japanese pricing but it should give you an idea of how it’ll be outside Japan. We’ll know when Bandai Namco America and Europe start sharing details on all that.

Producer Yousuke Futami explained if you play the game every day and do Daily Quest you should be able to get any cosmetic you want through the gacha with the Cube Tickets, and the SAO Coins are geared toward those who don’t want to wait and wanna buy the costume they want right away.

Both in and outside Japan, preorders and first print copies contain the 4 fan-designed costumes for Kirito and Alice and 200 SAO Coins.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris will get free DLC via monthly updates, with Raid Quests and Raid Bosses, character scenarios which will be fully voiced, gameplay balances, a new undisclosed system, and the like. You’ll be able to fight the new bosses with friends online or solo. When they’re tied to story elements, the new bosses will be easier to beat when playing solo, so those who want to know the story can easily triumph over them.

Producer Futami mentioned Bandai Namco can’t detail the content of the Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris Premium Pass yet, and only gave some vague details. The Premium Pass will be divided into two parts, releasing separately. The story elements in the Premium Pass will have around 200,000 characters of text in total. There’s even more if you count the added Character Episodes. Overall, the Premium Pass will have as much content as around half the base game.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris having DLC isn’t surprising as this is pretty much a staple of the series like bed scenes. The Premium Pass definitely feels worth it. It might end up including characters who appear later in Alicizaiton like Silica, Lisbeth and co, seeing Producer Futami teased that.

The stream also included fresh gameplay featuring a party with Fanatio and Solterina senpai, aka the best girl of the worst SAO arc. Brand new characters including a villain voiced by Fukujun were revealed too. We covered all that here.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris will launch on May 21 in Japan and May 22 worldwide, on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you like our coverage, my Unneeded Opinions, and wish to support DualShockers, you can preorder it via Amazon.
