Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris Japan Limited Edition Artwork, New Gameplay Revealed

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris: all the new details revealed on the latest live stream with Reki Kawahara and Producer Yousuke Futami.

June 16, 2020

As you already know, a new Sword Art Online stream was held on June 13, where we most notably learned Lisbeth, Silica, Leafa and Sinon will all be playable in Alicization Lycoris. Now, we have up and running for you a full summary of the stream, with more gameplay, and new comments from Producer Yousuke Futami.

Producer Yousuke Futami explained there are some differences with how Lisbeth, Silica, Leafa and Sinon will appear in the game story-wise compared to the anime/novel. In Alicization Lycoris, the story diverges from the first Alicization anime season at episode 24. That’s long before the point when the four girls join Underworld. In the game though, they will still join the story nonetheless.  Moreover, the girls won’t be using the goddesses-based super accounts they login with in the anime/novel. Hence why their designs are different in Alicization Lycoris. Asuna has a different design than her goddess Stacia version, Sinon looks different than her goddess Solus version, etc.

Sinon uses bows, Leafa uses one-handed swords, Silica uses daggers, ans Lisbesth uses one-handed clubs. The text description mentions how the four girls decided to dive in Underworld after hearing from Yui that Kirito and Asuna were in danger.

Yousuke Futami also explained why Silica has a blue/purple outfit: because her usual red colors would feel redundant with Medina, who also has a red outfit. He added Silica also has yellow or blue outfits in other games, and doesn’t always wears red in the first place.

Next, we saw more character episode excerpts gameplay. These are scenes following the previous excerpts that were uploaded on the Sword Art Online games official Twitter. There’s one with Asuna, Eugeo, Eldrie, and Ronie. Watch them at the 1:26:26 timestamp linked below.

Longer versions of these excepts will soon be published on the SAO games official Twitter. The longer version of the Asuna one has already been published:

Asuna’s feeling lonely that Kirito already spent at least two years in Underworld and started becoming more of an adult. She wants to pamper him and hugs him.

Next on the stream, we saw a few seconds more of gameplay. A dialogue scene where Kirito ends up accidentally eavesdropping on Alice, Asuna, Lisbeth, and Sinon chatting about him. You can watch that below at the 1:32:40 timestamp.

These are the kind of comedic event scenes past SAO games had, and Producer Futami said Alicization Lycoris will have similar scenes.

Next up, the Abec illustration for the box of the game’s limited edition in Japan was revealed. It’s pretty cool. You can watch an unboxing at the 1:35:13 timestamp below.

The final SAOAL gameplay footage shown on stream featured multiple characters wearing the fan designed costumes from the costume contest.

The black hood costume Sinon is wearing was shown for the first time. It’ll be included with the game’s Premium Pass in Japan.

As a side note, the stream also featured SAO author Reki Kawahara, SAO editor Kazuma Miki, OP singer ReoNa and Kirito’s seiyuu Yoshitsugu Matsuoka. They all shared some fun comments:

Matsuoka recently got into FFXIV again thanks to some newly found free time staying at home. He played for the first time in 6 years. He also commented on the Dengeki Online Shop limited edition with the Asuna and Alice sheet drawn by Yumiko Yamamoto, claiming he likes Alice’s thighs the most.

ReoNa’s favorite character used to be Sinon, but she likes Eugeo now since when Alicization started. She likes how Eugeo complements Kirito’s personality and stays by his side. Matsuoka jokingly said she needs his approval to get Eugeo. These days while staying at home she spends a lot of time sleeping.

Two new trailers have been published by Bandai Namco America too. The first one is the same one as the one revealing Lisbeth and co but with English subtitles for the theme song. The second one goes over character customization, crafting, and relationships.

We have yet to see the game’s final trailer and the actual opening animation sequence too. As Producer Futami confirmed on stream, the footage shown in the theme song trailer/character trailer isn’t the opening sequence.

SAO console games sales have topped 5.6 million units in the world.  If you’d like to learn more on Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, you can check out: the latest gameplay with Lisbeth, Silica, Leafa, Sinon, the game’s original story and characters, the battle system, the planned DLCs, online multiplayer, the return of bed scenes, and more comments from Producer Futami, including the game’s length and regarding a Switch version.
