The Sword Art Online βeater's cafe held a new live stream focusing on Alicization Lycoris today, July 3. Producer Yousuke Futami played Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris live for around an hour, and as the stream ended, revealed the game's opening animation.

The opening theme song of Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is titled Scar/let, and is sung by ReoNa. She also handled the opening for the anime's latest season, Sword Art Online: Alicization War of Underworld Part 2, debuting on July 11 in Japan. The series was scheduled for Spring 2020 but was delayed with the covid-19 pandemic.

You can find the opening below.

Kirito and Eugeo definitely look really cool on that shot. The opening also prominently features Alice, along with the red-headed Medina Orthinanos, the new original character created for the game. Producer Futami and Sword Art Online Author Reki Kawahara explained how she was created in an interview we translated.

If time permits, I'll be covering Producer Futami's comments during the livestream via a separate article later on. Meanwhile you can read much more via our previous coverage: Our summary of the latest stream and gameplay, gameplay trailers for Lisbeth, Silica, Leafa, Sinon. The game's original story and characters. The battle system along with character creation and online multiplayer. Planned DLCs, the return of bed scenes.

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Producer Futami previously explained why he can't tell us anything yet whether a Switch version will happen or not, and if it's even possible or not in the first place. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris will be available on July 9 in Japan and July 10, 2020, worldwide. In Japan, players who preordered the game's digital version will be able to play part of the game (until Kirito and Eugeo arrive at Central Cathedral) starting July 6 as Beaters.
