Sword Art Online Last Recollection, the latest action RPG in the multimedia franchise Sword Art Online, was announced in the series' 10th anniversary livestream to be released next year in 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S Xbox One and PC via Steam.
Just like the previous installments, Last Recollection will contain an original story that expands in a different way on the setting of the current story arc, titled Alicization – War of Underworld. According to Dengekionline's report, the story takes place after the events of the first season of the anime, directly after the "Administrator" of the virtual reality MMO Alicization was defeated, and it will weave new twists and roles for fan favorite characters, such as Alice and Euego, as they tackle a new danger threatening the digital world of Alicization.
New characters who did not appear in the original light novel or anime will feature in the game, such as Dorothy, who stands on a rift between the Dark Territory (Underworld) and the human world. Many never-before-seen locations from the Underworld will be produced for the first time, and the main theme song will be preformed by ReoNa, who worked on the theme songs of the anime and the previous game, Alicization Lycoris.
A new interview posted by Dengekionline gives more details about the developer's world view for Last Recollection, saying the story of Alicization Lycoris and Last Recollection were originally supposed to be one game, but they were separated due to the volume of the story. Moreover, it is supposed to be the conclusion for the game series, which has been running for the past 10 years, and it will portray a possible future in which Kirito can freely move and help his friends right after the events of Lycoris, unlike the anime, where Kirito spends a lot of time in a catatonic state.
In other news, Edith, a new playable character, hs been announced as an addition to Sword Art Online Alicization Lyroics in a new update scheduled to release soon. The character can be accessed from the friend list after the main scenario is cleared. Multiple other accessories and exchange items will also be included in this new update.
