Take-Two Interactive CEO Says Games Will Look Exactly Like Live-Action in Ten Years

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, believes that in ten years video games will look completely realistic.

With the arrival of the new generation of consoles, now we all waiting for a huge leap in the visual and graphical aspects of video games, however, the Take-Two Interactive CEO believes that the biggest step-up in the graphical area of the games is going to occur ten years later, at least.

In a recent talk at UBS Global TMT Virtual Conference, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive spoke about the future of video games and how the industry could change in the next ten years in the case of technology. He said:

I’m guessing [Take-Two’s] business in ten years looks very different than it does today in the same way that it looks very different today than it did ten years ago when there was no mobile business and no recurrent consumer spending.

And I can’t quite say what that will involve, but I think what you’re going to see is technology will allow our creative folks to do things they’ve never been able to do before, including make games that look exactly like live-action.

Some of what we do now looks a lot like live-action, but it’s still animation. In 10 years, you’ll have the option if you want to make things that look completely realistic, all done inside a computer, never mind all the other advances technology will enable.

During the 8th-generation of consoles, we saw some huge progression in the case of visuals and how impressive the games can look compared to the previous generations. Titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us Part 2, Forza Horizon 4, and Death Stranding can truly be named as the benchmarks of the last generation of consoles.

Now, with the new era of console gaming starting with devices that are 4 times powerful than PS4 and Xbox One, we can expect some big graphical leaps in the future years. Zelnick added:

All of those things lead me to believe there will be massive moves in our business — many of which we can’t entirely predict — massive growth in the business, and there will be a lot of dynamic opportunity both in terms of what we can do creatively and what we can do on the business side to exploit that creativity.

Take-Two Interactive is the mother company of Rockstar Games, Private Division, Codemasters, and 2K Games.
