One of my favorite JRPGs this generation has been Tales of Vesperia, which is, surprisingly, still an Xbox 360 exclusive in North America. A couple years back, an anime based around those characters but set before the events of the game saw a theatrical release in Japan, titled Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike. Today, Funimation, an anime distributor that brings a lot of stuff over like Fullmetal Alchemist and Dragon Ball Z (shudder), announced that they have the “home entertainment, broadcast, theatrical, digital, and merchandising rights” to bring that title over to both the United States and Canada.
The First Strike revolves around events that take place prior to the game, when Yuri and Flynn were still running around as best buds in the Imperial Knights. It’ll still be a while before we can see this localized story on store shelves, however, as Funimation doesn’t intend to publish it until 2012. However, when they do, it will appear on both DVD and Blu-Ray.
