Team Ninja Changes its Tune about Crossover Fighting Games

By Kenneth Richardson

February 14, 2012

Back in 2010, Team Ninja made it clear that it wasn’t interesting in a crossover fighting game. This was in the midst of reveals of titles like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken. Although this angle is obviously very profitable, the studio expressed that doing such a thing wouldn’t differentiate them from other developers. That sounds great, and I could respect TN for something like this if they hadn’t already changed that opinion. Nowadays all they’re interested in is a crossover with the Virtua Fighter series.

You read that correctly. In an interview with Edge, studio head Yosuke Hayashi stated that the development team is comprised of many die-hard fighting fans and that he feels especially strongly about the Virtua Fighter IP. He notes that his team would love to actively pursue such a collaboration. I doubt a Dead or Alive Vs. Virtua Fighter title will ever see the light of day, but I would have said the same thing about Street Fighter X Tekken if you asked me a few years ago.
