Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Terra Battle Getting New Storyline Written by NieR: Automata Director Yoko Taro

The Drakengard 3 team reunites to create a new questline in Hironobu Sakaguchi's Terra Battle.

Legendary Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and his studio Mistwalker Corporation are continuing to work on his successful JRPG Terra Battle, and just celebrated 2.7 million downloads worldwide.

To celebrate in style, Sakaguchi-san announced that Terra Battle will get a new world and questline by an exceptional team. NieR: Automata Director Yoko Taro will do the writing, the game’s composer Keiichi Okabe will create the soundtrack, and The Last Story Character Designer Kimihiko Fujisaka will handle the character design.

If the names of those three developers together sound familiar, it’s because this isn’t the first time they work as a team. Yoko-san and Fujisaka-san have been working together on Drakengard and Drakengard 2 for PS2, and have been joined by Okabe-san on Drakengard 3 for PS3.

Interestingly, the new story will be linked to Yoko Taro’s own world, which includes both the Drakengard and the NieR series.

Alongside the announcement, we get a video showcasing both a new character designed by Fujisaka-san himself (you can see her at the bottom of the post), and a fantastic music track by Okabe-san. If you know his style, you won’t have any trouble recognizing it, with the iconic use of voices almost like they were musical instruments.

On top of this, we learn that upon reaching 2.8 million downloads, work will begin on a Terra Battle manga.

Terra Battle recently received a PC version on top of the initial Android and iOS versions, and recently it got new characters and a collaboration with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XV.

Hironobu Sakaguchi and Mistwalker are also looking past Terra Battle, and they will announce a new game on Thursday, June 22nd. Just today they showcased the first characters, and two weeks ago they published two music tracks to tease the announcement.
