The devs behind the horror based fighting game Terrordrome are looking to take their franchise in a more ‘legitimate’ direction. The sequel, Terrordrome: Reign of the Legends has officially been confirmed to be in pre-production and has a new logo to boot.

The original game was full of icons of the genre such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Ash Williams duking it out with lesser knowns such as Pumpkinhead, Manic Cop, and Candyman. The sequel is going to avoid copyrighted characters in order for the devs to make the game their own and not worry about potential lawsuits.

The roster of Terrordrome: Reign of the Legends will focus more on classic monsters (read: public domain) such as Dracula and creatures born out of myth and urban legends. While the team is open to trying to go after certain rights if demand is high enough, a lot of that will come down to the amount of money that they are able to raise for the project.

A demo is currently in the works for a release next year. This in turn is to have a playable product in time for an eventual Kickstarter campaign which is estimated to start in Q4 of 2017. For now, there’s only the logo and one piece of concept art from a few years ago to go on, but I’m still excited to see a true horror fighting to emerge from the shadows and make it on consoles and Steam.
