Tesla Cars Will Introduce Atari Games in Their Next Software Update

Atari games will be playable in Tesla cars as part of a version 9.0 software update due in the coming weeks with the promise of "some of the best" games

August 2, 2018

Elon Musk has always been ahead of the game in the technology universe, so it comes as no surprise when he recently took to Twitter to announce the latest software update for Tesla cars, known as Version 9.0, would feature a number of classic Atari games.

Games will reportedly be playable on the center touchscreen console found in Tesla vehicles following the release, with Elon stating that the update will launch in ‘four weeks’ following Elon Musk’s, CEO behind the Tesla brand, announcement on his official Twitter account:

Elon Musk didn’t outline a detailed list of the games, but he said they are hoping to release Pole Position, Tempest, and Missile Command with the new release. Pole Position is set to be linked to the actual car’s steering wheel while in a stationary position. While it may sound a bit crazy to play a game like Pole Position on the road, Musk did make it very clear that the game would play with the Tesla steering wheel but only when the car is stationary, because you know, of accidents and all.

Musk also made a plea to the gaming world, asking game developers to join Telsa to make “super fun games” with him. I’m pretty sure a lot of gaming devs would jump at the chance to work with Elon Musk!

Tesla owners will begin to receive V9.0 through an over-the-air software update in about four weeks, so we’ll learn more about the software throughout August. And for those of you who can’t afford a Tesla to play your Atari classics, keep in mind that we still have the retro-inspired Atari VCS on the way.
