Tetris 99 is Hosting a Splatoon Themed Maximus Cup
Grab this free Splatoon Theme during the next Maximus Cup.
Every month the hit battle royale title Tetris 99 holds a tournament known as the Maximus Cup. The tournament lasts for a weekend every month. During that time, players try and make the top 999 out of the entire world. If you happen to make the top 999 Nintendo will reward you with 999 Nintendo Points. Catching a theme here?
This month, however, there will be a little bit more of an incentive. Players have the chance to earn a background theme based on Nintendo’s popular shooter franchise Splatoon.
Splatoon 2 is holding its final Splatfest this month and to celebrate the game, Tetris 99 is going to reward players who partake in the Maximus Cup. To receive the theme you must earn 100 event points during the time of the tournament. Getting event points isn’t too particularly hard. You end up earning them based on what place you get in each game. If you are really good at the game and can get first place with relative ease, then you will earn yourself the theme with one win alone. If you’re not so good at the game (like me) it will take a bit more of a grind to accumulate the 100 points.
Here is a chart that explains the event point system:
Tetris 99 is free for Switch owners as long as you are a subscriber of Nintendo Switch Online. You can purchase a year subscription of the service for only $19.99, which allows you to play online with friends and play a catalog of NES games. Nintendo 64 and GameCube games could also be coming in the future. If you are new to the platform and want to buy Splatoon 2 you can purchase it on Amazon.
The Maximus Cup begins July 12 at 12:00am PST and goes until July 15 11:59 pm PST.
