Thank the Gods: Steam Introduces New Content Download System

on July 18, 2011 10:00 AM

For as awesome a digital download platform as Steam is, it’s not without its problems. One of the main annoyances used to be the update and download system; it wasn’t uncommon to have ridiculously slow speeds for seemingly no reason, and sometimes updates didn’t automatically start because the servers were under heavy load.

This hopefully all changed last Friday when Steam unveiled a new content providing system, available now, that would optimize downloads and make things generally more convenient for the end user.  In addition to increasing bandwidth, the updates are now more efficient than ever, thanks to an overhaul of the update system.

I have to say, there’s been many a time when I’ve been frustrated with updates for Left 4 Dead 2 and Team Fortress 2; I hope all of this assuages those problems considerably.
