Developer Edmund McMillen announced today via Tumblr that The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth+ will be releasing on Steam on January 3rd, with a console release coming later in the year during Spring.

Available for $9.99 but discounted to $6.66 during its first week for those that already own Afterbirth, the expansion features mod tools, a new chapter, a new final boss, a new playable character, a "greedier" greed mode, new rooms, a bestiary, new achievements, 5 new challenges, 2 new transformations, new enemies, new champion forms, new cut scenes, and new music tracks.

McMillen mentioned towards the end of the brief announcement that while the expansion is a bit smaller than Afterbirth before it, the fact that mods are being added gives it the possibility to be 20 times larger. He's quite excited about it, and is even eager to make some mods part of official in-game lore.

The Binding of Isaac is a randomly generated action RPG shooter with roguelike elements that released back in 2011. Players control titular protagonist Isaac as he fights to escape his mother, facing off against droves of mysterious creatures, discovering secrets, and battling fearsome bosses.

A spooky teaser trailer was released alongside the announcement and can be found below:
