The Boss Update Launching for Minecraft in October

A new update, labeled The Boss Update, will be launching for Minecraft on October 18, 2016 for the Windows 10 Edition, Pocket Edition, and Gear VR Edition. This update will bring the first boss battles to these versions of Minecraft.

We’ve tweaked the Wither boss battle, added the Elder Guardian and its Ocean Monument filled with goodies for building and adventuring, and even introduced slash commands so you can tweak the game itself by summoning, teleporting and more.

The update also introduces add-ons to those versions. Add-ons allow players to edit text files and, “tweak components of entities and characters in the game.” Some free examples of what you can do with add-ons will be available on

Xbox Wireless Controllers with bluetooth will be supported with Gear VR and Windows 10 editions, and Oculus Touch will be supported on the Windows 10 edition when the update drops on October 18.
