In a new interview with TrueTrophies, Striking Distance Studios' CTO Mark James revealed that The Callisto Protocol will have a four-year support plan after release. James also confirmed that the team will be "investing in DLC", as the world of The Callisto Protocol has been left expandable.

When asked about the post-launch support for The Callisto Protocol, Mark James said, "We view this as a full-service title and we will be investing in DLC. We’re looking at four years of support after release". The interviewer then attempted to dig out some more specific details about the upcoming DLC, to which James said, "We’ve left the world expandable. We’ve created a world that can tell different stories, and so we can either tell those stories either through DLC, or we could actually tell those stories through subsequent products. We’ve left those open".

It seems as though the developers don't quite have it all planned out yet, or they're simply trying to keep details on the down low. But when pushed for further explanation on Mark James' "expandable" comment, he said that future DLC expansions could include new modes to the game. Some of these modes may even be inspired by other survival horror titles, he expressed.

DLC for The Callisto Protocol shouldn't come as much of a surprise, considering the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game includes a Season Pass. It's unclear exactly why James was so coy about what could be included in future expansions, but with only a few months left until launch, you'd like to think that there are some more solid plans for anyone that intends to purchase the Season Pass.

Originally, The Callisto Protocol was created as an expansion of the PUBG universe but later went on to become its own standalone story with no connection to the PUBG universe, aside from the odd easter egg here and there. The new IP is helmed by Glen Schofield, who originally co-created Dead Space and co-founded the Call of Duty development team, Sledgehammer Games. Schofield is now the CEO of Striking Distance Studios, the development team behind The Callisto Protocol.

The Callisto Protocol will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 2nd, 2022.
