Publisher Focus Home Interactive and French indie developer Big Bad Wolf unveiled a brand new episodic adventure game for PC, PS4, and Xbox One titled The Council. Its first episode, titled The Mad Ones, is set to launch in February of 2018.

The game is set in 1793 and follows Louis de Richet, a member of a secret society that gets invited to a private island. When he gets to the island, he finds out famous historical figures like Napolean Bonaparte and George Washington are there, while also discovering that his mother is missing.

The Council’s gameplay differs from other narrative adventure games through the implementation of a new Social Influence system. During conversations, players will be able to use different skills and resources to get the outcome they want. Knowing every character psychological weaknesses an immunities is helpful.

The Council also doesn’t feature game overs as the result of a bad encounter, so failing an encounter can have permanent consequences on the rest of the game. According to the developers, there are fifteen of the aforementioned skills, and they can all be tailored to assist the player on the path they decide to take. This includes increasing Louis’ knowledge in things like diplomacy and occultism.
